I like the background. The dark blues and blacks here and there are appropriate for the dark side of Pinkamena and I like that evil/sly expression on her face. The shading is great, its at the right places and I like that shine on her collar. In my view i think she is a snowy place and dark at the same time. the detail on her mane and tail is carved out carefully and I like how you are able to make it stand out as if it were meant to be pinnacle of the artwork. It makes huge impact on how we see the darker side and it was nicely put in this artwork.
But what I don't get is that why she is doing that. Perhaps my interpretation may be a little off but i don't understand what she is doing. in every artwork there is meaning to it, its just that the tiny flaw here is that candy cane. It's a little out of place but maybe this was supposed to be Christmas themed but since Christmas is already over, i have not put a thought about that in. your style is original and might I say very distinct and clear but otherwise, it can become common. Do try to develop a new technique but still keeping that "KP-Shaddowsquirrel" style
Anyway, I LOVE the what you implemented in this artwork. It all harmonizes into one masterpeice. Another great job
First off this is a very nice and overall awesome piece of work! I really enjoy the colors in this and the dark background works well with pinkies color. The eyes and the style you used for the hair and eyes works fantastically well with this character. The lighting and shadowing of the character is spot on and really fits with the scene; not to much shadows/highlights and not to little, just right!
Now most of my recommendations are going to be nit picking and suggestions on how to possibly strengthen this piece. With that said:
1.) I really do enjoy this pose but I wonder if it might have had a stronger impact if she was standing in a "defiant" kind of pose, which would have strengthened the facial expression even more. It's a tough call though as I do like this one as well but my gut is telling me that a more defiant, strong standing pose would add more to the facial expression.
2.) The hind-legs are overly large compared to her front legs. They aren't out of shape to the front ones but if you picture her stretching her back legs out, with what she has now, they'd probably stick out about 1 and a half times longer then her front legs.
3.) While I understand the candy cane (she lives with a family that runs a candy business) I agree with a few of the other comments that I really don't quite understand the candy cane piece. While it looks great I'm a little confused to why she has it.
4.) Pinkies hair looks great and it works well with her expression I, however; feel it doesn't quite have the "vision" of the character in mind. What I mean is when her hair is down it's usually supposed to signify a sullen/sulky/depressed/subdued attitude; which I'm not really feeling here. Now this is just a personal preference as I usually like to keep a characters traits close to what the creators had in mind. Just something to consider
Hopefully you find this useful and as previously stated other then those recommendations I think this is a great piece!
